Meet the ecosystem inside you … A timid Bifidobacterium named Biffy is forced to leave their family and become part of a new community, in the gut of a newborn human baby.
Follow Your Gut is a comic that ate a biology textbook. It’s an epic adventure set over the first three years of a new life, exploring one of the most important relationships you will ever have — the one with your gut microbiome.
Created by artists, scientists, and educators, this story is for anyone who’s curious about the human–microbe symbiosis, and what all those trillions of bacteria are doing down there in your intestines!
Inspired by the latest research, Follow Your Gut includes a fascinating and detailed appendix that explains the amazing science behind the story.

Youth Writing Workshop, 12PM
Join writer Ailsa Wild for a 1 hour writing workshop, focused on creating characters for graphic novels. The workshop is aimed at young writers (10 to 16 years) keen to develop their writing skills and explore creative ideas.

Ailsa Wild is an acrobat and whip-cracker who ran away from the circus to become a writer. She is now an author, performer and community artist with a history of deep collaboration.
Her most recent book is Follow Your Gut, a collaboration with scientists and artists, is a comic that ate a biology text book. It’s an epic adventure set over the first three years of a new life, exploring one of the most important relationships you will ever have — the one with your gut microbiome. Created by artists, scientists, and educators, this story is for anyone who’s curious about the human–microbe symbiosis, and what all those trillions of bacteria are doing down there in your intestines!
Ailsa has written two junior fiction series: ‘Squishy Taylor’ and ‘The Naughtiest Pixie.’ She is the lead writer of Small Friends Books where she works with microbiologists, virologists and other scientists to translate complex science into compelling illustrated narrative picture-books. Of these ‘Zobi and the Zoox – a story of coral bleaching’ was the first ever children’s book to win the Royal Zoological Society of NSW Whitely Medal.
Ailsa’s science-based YA graphic novel The Invisible War was a CBCA notable and won several awards. Ailsa’s books have been published in Spain, Brazil, US, UK, Egypt, Korea, Israel and China.
The workshop is ideal for young writers. $10 per person
